TRINCON’s Career Path Outline Takes Aim at Driver Retention

April 5, 2007

TRINCON GROUP, a leading national transportation industry advisory firm, has released an outline of its driver career path plan and made it available for free through the company Web site, www.trincon.com.

The career path outline is a key component of TRINCON’s driver hiring and retention program, which has been implemented with a number of small and mid-sized trucking companies. The program and career path are designed to address two of the most pervasive issues affecting the trucking industry today—driver recruitment and retention.

“We continue to see companies fighting the same battle to recruit and retain a viable workforce,” said TRINCON President Duff H. Swain. “Companies that wish to reduce turnover and invest in long-term, productive employees, must begin viewing drivers differently. A distinct, rewards-based career path is an essential part of a sound recruitment and retention program.”

Studies conducted by the Conference Board and American Management Association discovered that American workers believe companies and their staff would perform better if businesses initiated employee incentive programs. In addition to increased company and employee productivity, 93 percent of American workers believe that American products and services could better compete against their foreign counterparts if American management involved workers in more continuous improvement efforts.

TRINCON’s career path outline includes six levels of development that allow new drivers to advance and become seasoned professionals. It also summarizes a driver incentive program that is based on the amount of miles driven and length of employment. Rewards for excellent performance and advanced levels of experience include pay increases, bonuses, vacation time and title advancement.
