TRINCON and RAMP Media Group Issue Survey Aimed at Improving Driver Retention
February 29, 2008
TRINCON Group, a leading national transportation industry advisory firm, is conducting a national survey of drivers to help improve problem areas in the trucking industry.
TRINCON is teaming up with RAMP Media Group, to conduct a survey of 5,000 to 7,000 fleet owners, owner operators and drivers to find answers to key issues in the trucking industry, such as why retention rates are at a record low. The survey will also create an established national driver database that drivers and company owners can access.
“We want to dig deep into the minds of drivers so we can use the information to better the industry as a whole,” said Duff Swain, president of TRINCON. “We hope to develop strategies and tactics from the results to improve retention rates and create a more positive and encouraging work environment for drivers.”
The survey asks drivers to rate other company departments such as administration and sales, while other questions ask drivers to provide feedback on improving the industry as a whole. TRINCON and RAMP Media Group created the survey using the Web-based tool, Survey Monkey.
The survey will be released in April through RAMP magazines, OTR and Pro Trucker which are distributed nationally through truck stops. The results will be published in June and will be used to set benchmarks for the trucking industry. The benchmarks will be used in the development of a survey to help fleet owners gage their organization against the industry benchmark.
“Developing a better understanding of the people outside the walls—the drivers—leads to better communication, and better communication leads to improved retention,” said Marvin Shefsky, president of RAMP Media Group.
Trucking companies and fleet owners will be able to access the survey’s results through TRINCON, RAMP Media Group, www.trincon.com, www.healthytruckinginfo.com and www.insidetruckingonline.com. From the information gathered, TRINCON and RAMP Media Group will develop educational programs for fleet owners that will help them create a better work environment that encourages drivers to succeed. TRINCON will also publish the data in its employee retention manual, soon to be released.
